Kiddush

for the Eve of Yom Tov

This article was written by Stephen Butterfass for Religious Living on the Web.

As we welcome the Shabbat with wine, a  symbol of joy, with wine we usher in the Festivals that comprise our annual cycle of celebrations. We also acknowledge that these days are occasions to be sanctified, and so we remember the source of life, and the shared history of Israel and the Divine Spirit that has sustained it. Kiddush consecrates these ancient festivals anew, reaffirming the covenantal relationship between God and the House of Israel.
